Barbican Insurance - Winner of best new comer in the London market Insurer awards 2009

Placed Solvency II Programme Director - 6 Month contract Role which  turned into a permanent role of Director of ERM after the initial 6 month assignment.

 

Scope

Having met with Barbican's Director of Compliance and Governance it was highlighted during the initial fact finding meeting that there was a need to recruit a Programme Director to manage the implementation of the Solvency II solution. At the time, Barbican were using the resources of a Big 4 consultant which came at a high premium. If this continued to be the case Barbican's resource budget would have soon dried up causing a serious impact on the future of the programme and the Business.

Strategic's Insurance Team were able to quickly identify a candidate that not only had the technical skills and in depth understanding of Solvency II and ERM that Barbican were looking for, but the candidate also shared the same core values as Barbican and culturally was a perfect fit.

The recruitment process was extremely efficient. From the initial meeting through to placement took less than one week.


The candidate placed made a huge and remarkable impact on the business and soon was able to offer their skills in other areas of the business, one being to set Barbican up as a managing agent because of the candidate's FSA and regulatory knowledge and contacts in the Insurance market. Towards the end of the initial 6 month assignment, Barbican were keen to keep hold of the candidate provided and offered them a newly created role of Director of ERM. The offer of a permanent role was accepted and Barbican have shown an interest in working with Strategic again as soon as the need arises.
